Ecotourism for City Marketing

Abstract

South Sulawesi has amazing natural potential, so do Pinrang district. This natural potential is a valuable material in city marketing. Generally, however, the areas in South Sulawesi do not work on these potentials seriously.
This paper is a preliminary study to identify the potential of ecotourism in Pinrang District and its possibility to be established as a city branding. The research method used is descriptive qualitative and data collected by observation, interview, and literature study.
The results showed that ecotourism locations in Pinrang District were well known outside the region but received low attention from the government and local communities. This condition is caused by several things such as management issues and focus of attention to other sectors such as agriculture. Therefore, it is necessary to examine the role of industry and community in realizing the development of ecotourism as a material of city marketing that can improve the welfare of the community and also ensure the quality of a healthy and sustainable environment.
